About ArketData

ArketData exists to answer one question reliably: what does food actually cost in Nigeria right now?

The problem

Food is the largest line in most Nigerian household budgets, and prices move fast. Yet finding out what a bag of rice costs this week — let alone which market sells it cheapest — usually means asking around or going to look. Official statistics arrive late and aggregate away the market-level detail that actually determines where you shop.

What we do

We publish retail prices by commodity, market and state — with the unit, the survey date and the number of markets behind every figure. Alongside that, a community of shoppers asks and answers questions about local prices, and can report prices they have seen themselves.

Those two sources are always kept visibly separate: prices we record ourselves, and prices contributed by members, which are clearly labelled unverified.

Who it's for

  • Shoppers and households deciding where and when to buy.
  • Traders and small businesses pricing stock and tracking input costs.
  • Researchers, journalists and NGOs who need market-level price series.
