Community guidelines
This community exists so Nigerian shoppers can find out what things actually cost, from people who were just at the market. Everything below follows from that.
What makes a good post
- Be specific. Name the item, the market and the unit. “₦82,000 for a 50kg bag at Mile 12 on Tuesday” helps someone; “rice is expensive” doesn't.
- Say when you saw it. Food prices move weekly. A price without a date is close to useless.
- Correct things kindly. If a price is wrong, say so and give the right one. Corrections are the whole point.
- Search first. If your question is already answered, you get your answer immediately and everyone else gets a cleaner archive.
What gets removed
- Promotion and spam. Loans, forex, betting, crypto, giveaways, and anything whose real purpose is to sell something unrelated to food prices.
- Abuse and harassment. Disagree with the price, not the person. Attacks based on ethnicity, religion, gender or region are removed without discussion.
- Prices you invented. Posting figures you didn't see, to talk a market up or down, is the one thing that would make this whole community worthless.
- Other people's personal details. Don't post someone's phone number, address or photo without their say-so.
How community prices are treated
Prices contributed by members are shown separately from ArketData's own market data, and are always labelled unverified. We only display a community figure once several different people have independently reported it, we show the median rather than an average so a single mistyped number can't distort it, and we discard outliers.
Treat community prices as a useful signal from other shoppers, not as a guarantee. Always confirm before you travel or buy in bulk.
Moderation, and how to challenge it
Anyone can report a post or answer. When several different members report the same thing, it is hidden automatically until a moderator reviews it — hidden, not deleted, so a pile-on can be undone in one action.
If we remove or hide something you wrote, we tell you and we tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, reply to that message and a person will look again. Repeated or deliberate breaches lead to a temporary suspension.
Your content and your account
You keep ownership of what you write; posting it here gives us permission to display it on ArketData. You can edit your own posts, and delete them at any time.
If you delete your account, your questions and answers stay up but are permanently detached from your name and shown as “Former member”. We do this because other people's threads depend on those answers — removing them would break conversations that have nothing to do with your departure. Everything that identifies you is erased.
